News surfaced this week that U.S. airstrikes on Pakistan in January resulted in the death of not only al-Qaeda operatives, but two innocent hostages as well.
Reportedly, the U.S. didn’t know that the hostages – an American and an Italian – were there when the country ordered attacks on the al-Qaeda compound.
This is bad news for the Obama administration, which has already been dealing with the aggressive opinions on drone use. This incident may only add fuel to the fire.
Obama has taken full responsibility and apologized for the attack, saying, “I profoundly regret what happened. On behalf of the United States government, I offer our deepest apologies to the families,” Reuters reported.
