The racial make up of Ferguson City Council has changed due to the victory wins for candidates Wesley Bell and Ella Jones.
Originally the city was governed by a board with about 5 to 6% whites, even though Ferguson is 70% African American.
This year, the council board will be made up of 50% African Americans.
According to the wavenewspapers.com, Jones will be the first African American women to sit on the Ferguson council.
“Thank you ward 1, I love you,” said Jones.
This was the city’s first election since the killing of the unarmed African American teenager Michael Brown by white officer Darren Wilson.
