11-month-old puppy chews off own paw to survive

This is one of the saddest stories for local news, especially if you are a dog lover. An unfortunate 11-month-old German shepherd puppy named Rocky had to go all 127 Hours and chew off his own paw in order to survive.

Between the 2nd and the 8th of November 2014, Rocky’s owner, an Orange County resident named Samer Samir Ibrahim,23, had left his pup tied up outside for a week. During that time, Rocky’s leg had been tangled in the chain he was tethered to, cutting off blood flow. The dog who is less than a year old then began to chew off his paw, getting about 4 to 5 inches off before Ibrahim tended the wound via unsatisfactory domestic remedies.

Ibrahim attempted to clean the wound using antiseptic wipes and then dressed it with a sock. A sock people.

Finally, he took Rocky in to the O.C. Animal Care shelter, who were the ones to sound the alarm concerning Rocky’s situation to the Westminster Police.

The incident occurred back in November, but Rocky’s recovery has been ongoing after having to lose his entire back right leg from being amputated due to the infection that spread from his “festering wounds”, according to the examinations of Veterinarians who are associated with Coastal German Shepherd Rescue.

Ibrahim was arrested on charges of animal abuse, and can potentially face a year in jail on this charge, according to prosecutors. The La Times reports that Ibrahim will appear next Thursday at a Westminster courthouse, facing misdemeanor charges for animal abuse and improperly caring for his animal, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Since the incident, Rocky has been adopted by a couple from San Diego who are experienced “fostering injured animals later adopted the pup,” according to a report from the LA Times.
