Within the last few hours, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney has decided not to run again in 2016. In a calculated statement released on his website, Romney stated, “After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party the opportunity to become our next nominee.” Until today’s statement, Romney’s name was gaining considerable traction as a potential nominee within the Republican Party.
As part of his statement, Romney alluded to the fact that many people were involved in this decision. He explains, “There are a large number of people who signed on to be leaders of our 2016 finance effort. In addition, state political leadership from several of the early primary states are on the line.” He continues on to say that he has considerable with building a team for a 2016 race. Despite all the help, Romney said that is is time for another candidate to run.
Rather than expressing specific support for any other name in the hat, Romney simply said, “Please feel free to sign up on a campaign for a person who you believe may become our best nominee.”
With this breaking news in place, the Republican Party will be re-strategizing for the upcoming election.
